1. I agree with you that it is important for teachers to share things about themselves but only things they are comfortable with. I can think back to some of my teachers in high school and the ones I had the closest relationships with, I knew the most about. Sharing things about yourself is a big part of building relationships with students and how you interact with them. I also agree though that teachers do not have to share everything. I believe there are still boundaries between students and teachers that if a teacher is uncomfortable sharing certain information with their students, they shouldn’t have to. It is completely up to that individual person if they want to share things about themselves, like their sexual orientation and gender identity. The teacher deserves a safe space just as much as the students do.
  2. I very much agree with your stance that there is still a role for libraries in schools. I can remember many times in elementary and high school when I was able to utilize the library. Even though technology is readily available, it is often refreshing to find something in the library for information or even just for pleasure. I also agree that having a librarian in the school is extremely beneficial because of their training and what they can offer the students. I had two amazing librarians at my elementary school when I attended and they always made our library time more than just walking around gathering books. I liked the quote you pulled out about 100 books not being enough in the classroom because it is so true that that amount will not last long in a classroom.  Technology is a great asset to use in schools but it should not diminish the value of a library and the books that it holds.
  3. I agree that there are many pros and cons with the use of social media in and outside of the classroom. It is a difficult thing for teachers and parents to manage especially with the growing amount of social media apps that are out there for students. I love the idea of teachers being able to creatively use it in the classroom to allow the students to express themselves in a different way. I can reflect this back to my leadership program in high school where we used social media like Instagram and twitter to advertise the events and anything else we would be putting on. It was a fast and easy way to get the message out there to students without making lots of posters that would eventually be tossed out. However, I also am aware of the dangers that it poses to students if not used responsibly.
