Play Is The Way (December 2019)

This professional workshop was presented by Leroy Slanzi at Thompson Rivers University. A handful of students in our program were fortunate enough to attend this workshop and learn about how this programs structure and function. It looks at the development of the personal and social capabilities of primary school students and how games can be used to enhance their self and social awareness.

French Literacy (L’enseignmement explicite de la litteratie precoce) (October 2019)

I attended this French literacy workshop in Vernon with another teacher candidate in my program. It was aimed towards tips and strategies for teaching primary students how to read and write. It was a full day workshop completely in French and I was able to jog my memory in regards to French concepts. We looked at the stages of development that students go through with their reading skills and the different types of reading that should be done every day with the students.

 Reflection on workshops

Attending these workshops was a valuable learning experience for me. I realized how beneficial these workshops can be even if they are for a short amount of time. These workshops offer a different point of view from a professional that got me looking at things in different ways. Workshops are a way to extend ones learning and further develop ones skills. As a future educator, I look forward to attending more workshops to consistently learn different perspectives and ways of doing things. The French literacy workshop was special since I was able to connect it to my own education since I did French immersion for 13 years. It was interesting to see how much has changed over the years in regards to teaching literacy to primary students. I learned so many helpful tips that I could apply to my language and literacy course at TRU. The Play Is The Way workshop I thoroughly enjoyed and was able to look at behavioral and emotional management in a whole different way. All of the activities that I did in the workshop, I could easily implement in future classrooms to enhance their learning and create a inclusive classroom environment.
